RenuCore™ technology is an innovative, high-performance asphalt modifier manufactured with nearly 100% reclaimed materials. By offsetting a portion of the virgin asphalt binder, it can provide substantial cost savings while supporting high-performance mix designs

CONTEXT

Each year, 15 million tons of asphalt shingles are removed from roofs in the USA. About 700 kt of reclaimed asphalt shingles (RAS) are currently being recycled in asphalt mixtures, the rest being landfilled. The reason behind such a low recycling rate is essentially technical: the stiff RAS binder can contribute to early cracking in hotmix asphalt pavements.

CertainTeed commercialized a new technology to solve this problem and make it possible to recycle large amounts of RAS in asphalt mixtures by using the RenuCore technology while improving the hotmix asphalt. This innovative product allows contractors to improve their asphalt mixtures with little impact on the production mode, while achieving substantial savings through the partial replacement of virgin asphalt cement.
